„Whatever befalls the eatrh beffals the sons of the earth." (Chief Seattle) V minulých hodinách angličtiny jsme se s paní učitelkou Gigerichovou věnovali velmi zajímavému tématu - životnímu prostředí. Vyšli jsme z uvedeného citátu a výsledkem našeho dlouhodobého snažení jsou i následující práce. The rhinoceroses are in KenyaThe white rhinoceroses are rare animals. Four of them lived in the Zoo in Dvůr Králové . The first rhinoceros was born in 1980. A rhinoceros is a big animal. Its weight is about 3,6 tune. It eats green grass, fresh leaves and vegetable. Normally, they live in Africa. But the hunters kill them there in numbers. This is a reason, why the rhinoceroses are endangered species. Súdán, Suni, Nájin and Fatu (names of rhinoceroses from the Zoo in Dvůr Králové) left the Czech Republic on 19th December 2009. They went to Kenya by aeroplane. Before the air transport, some people were afraid about possible problems during the trip. But the final result was excellent. They travelled comfortably. Conservationists think, that the rhinoceroses will live in Africa and then, they will have babies. It will be good for African nature. At the moment, the rhinoceroses from the zoo are happy. For better acclimatization, they live now in a special reservation. The local people look after them. They gradually get into the African nature. The project costs about 127.000 dollars. It is very important. Dvůr Králové zoo is famous in the world. I am very happy, that the project is successful. And what about you? Štěpán Káňa Save the Canadian beaversDear friends, I want to tell you about Jackie and her family. Jackie is a beaver, and she lives in a Canadian river called Mackenzi. Jackie and her daughters and sons build a big dam from the wood over the river. They are contented here. However, some rich people want to build a new, big, real dam here. A new lake will be created and Jackie´s home will be destroyed. Jackie and other animals will have to find a new home in the other place, but some of them will be left to die. I and my friends organize a petition against the new dam. That´s why I am writing to you now. Please sign your name under our petition. If we have plenty of signatures , perhaps we will save Jackie and her friends. Thank you. Yours sincerelly, Save the Rainforests!
Dear readers, I want to tell you about the increasing rainforest destruction in our planet! Actually, what are the rainforests? The tropical rainforests are forests with tall trees, warm climate and lots of rain. They are in Africa, Asia, Australia and America. Why are rainforests important? Lots of animals have got some home there, many plants grow there. They help to keep the healthy world's climate and they are an interesting place to visit, too. But some people cut lots of trees in the rainforests and animals lost their home, maybe also their life! They cut trees for wood to make some nice and expensive furniture, land to build some shopping centres, roads and so on. Every year thousands kilometers of rainforests are destroyed! How can we save the rainforests? They are disappearing very quickly. We want to stop it and save them, but it is not easy. Maybe some demonstrations can help, but not for whole life! So if you have time on Tuesday 25th August at 4:00pm go with us and do the huge demonstration! I think, we have to respect and be nice to our environment. In this time it isn't very well and what will be when we will have children? Will they meet any tigers, butterflies and exotic animals living in these rainforests? PS: Don't forget to bring some big and wonderful posters! Thank you very much for supporting us, Julie Polachová
